Trustees set Chicory Ridge Park hours to sunrise–sunset

The Committee of the Whole voted on May 20 to set Chicory Ridge Park’s hours to sunrise–sunset.
Trustees heard that neighborhood residents who requested the change prefer closing the park at dusk rather than adding lighting. Staff said Chicory Ridge and Riverside are the village’s only gated parks; residents asked that gates be closed at dusk to reduce vehicle access and deter late-night activities. Trustees discussed whether shorter hours would increase police workload and noted that gates do not prevent people from reaching the park on foot, but staff said closing gates at dusk would reduce vehicle access and make it easier for neighbors to spot vehicles parked in front of homes.
After discussion, Trustee Bridal moved and Trustee Wright seconded a motion to set Chicory Ridge Park hours to sunrise–sunset. The committee approved the change by roll call and asked staff to publish the revised hours and implement gate-closing procedures for that park.
Trustees left Riverside Park hours unchanged because it hosts organized activities such as football that occur later in the evening.
