Committee awards engineering contract for Riverside Park pavilion replacement to Fair Grama

Brandon, a village staff member, said the village received two proposals for design and construction oversight; Fair Grama’s proposal came in about $200 less than the competing proposal from McMahon (Mike McMahon). The scope presented to trustees covers structural design review, construction observation and minor electrical work associated with replacing the existing pavilion.
Trustees moved and seconded to authorize staff to contract with Fair Grama for the engineering services. The motion passed on roll call.
The scope as described in the RFP and proposals includes structural review of proposed prefabricated or preengineered options, geotechnical and foundation considerations if required, permitting, and construction inspection. Staff noted the earlier, lower estimate for design-only work assumed the village would perform most coordination in‑house; the current proposals reflect a higher level of consultant involvement and the cost of necessary construction observation.
During the meeting, a trustee asked why the design fee had risen from earlier village estimates; staff replied the larger proposal accounts for construction observation, electrical items and an expanded design review beyond the earlier, design‑only assumption.
Next steps: staff will finalize a contract with Fair Grama and proceed with the engineering and construction management work identified in the consultant proposal.
