The Newburgh City School District policy committee discussed a proposed update to the district's Title IX student nondiscrimination policy designed to align with currently effective federal regulations.
Board member Mister Shaw said the district held an extensive in-service on Title IX and that changes at the federal level and subsequent court decisions had altered regulatory guidance. "This is a Title IX discrimination policy for students, which is compliant with currently in effect regulations," he said.
The committee agreed to disseminate the draft to board members and to bring the policy back to the policy committee for more detailed review before forwarding it for broader board consideration. Acting Superintendent Anix Peterson confirmed the revised policy would repeal and replace the existing policy to bring the district into alignment with the latest rule set.
No vote or final adoption occurred at the policy meeting. Committee members said they needed more time to read the draft and requested a digital copy prior to the next discussion to permit line-by-line review.
