A warrant article filed to require posting of existing recordings of public municipal meetings drew support from Select Board members on Sept. 30 and prompted staff and community volunteers to discuss technical remedies that could automate posting.
Heather Hamilton of Brookline Interactive Group told the board she has found that many meetings are recorded (often to Zoom for meeting minutes) but recordings are not consistently uploaded to the town’s civic channel. “When I don't see a recording, I usually find the staff member that was most likely to record that meeting, and I ask for the recording. And, usually, I get the recording,” Hamilton said. The article asks that when a recording exists it be posted to the civic platform within a short period — the petitioner accepted language of “no later than 10 days” after discussion with the advisory subcommittee.
Board response: Members broadly supported the objective of making existing recordings available and suggested the town’s IT and video staff pursue an automated workflow. Select Board members said a technical solution should reduce reliance on manual uploads; staff agreed to explore options, and the petitioner agreed to supply revised language reflecting a “no later than 10 days” posting target.
Outcome: The Select Board did not vote on final language at the Sept. 30 meeting; staff and the petitioner will refine language and consider automation options before the matter returns for formal action.
