The committee voted to use the word “enhance” in the design criteria after discussion about substituting or removing terms such as “heritage” and “character.” Abby, chair of the mural subcommittee, told members that the Select Board “believes in us and our process” and has delegated the RFP review to the council’s process. The subcommittee set a deadline of Nov. 29 at noon for artist applications, plans to convene Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. to choose three finalists, and to issue a town survey on Dec. 5. Final digital designs from the three finalists are due Jan. 2, 2026, with a final design selection targeted for Jan. 6 and NCAC review continuing through late February; installation is anticipated in early spring 2026.
Why it matters: the RFP and schedule determine who can apply and when the mural — funded in part by a private partner — will be designed and installed. The committee also struck a balance between donor requests, artistic freedom and town oversight.
