The Grosse Ile Downtown Development Authority approved the purchase of a permanent 24-foot Christmas tree for $4,200, accepted the July 2025 financial statements and approved the July 24 meeting minutes during its Aug. 27, 2025 meeting.
Board members discussed site location and planting logistics. Ross, the DDA director, said the supplier will plant the tree and provide aftercare instructions; Ross explained that the DDA has a spigot at Lions Park that staff or contracted grounds crews can use for watering. A board member asked if there was a guarantee should the tree fail; Ross said the vendor would plant and advise on care.
The motion to approve purchase of the Christmas tree was moved by Mister Jacobson and supported by Miss Armiak and carried by voice vote. The board confirmed the tree is 24 feet tall and will be located near Macomb Street in the southwest corner of Lions Park.
On routine business, a motion by Miss Armiak, supported by Mister Ranley, approved the minutes of the July 24, 2025, meeting. The July 2025 financial statements were approved on a motion by Mister Ranley, supported by Mister Jacobson; staff had noted that watering for downtown flowers will add an ongoing maintenance expense as DPS staff now waters planters daily.
Ross also presented a grants-tracking summary and the DDA’s art expenditures report; staff reported $272,000 expended on Art on the Isle over the past three years and $141,500 in owned assets. The board had no public comments at the meeting and adjourned after regular business.
