Committee hears proposal for additional Seaside weather cam; staff to explore placement and costs

Committee members discussed whether to add a third publicly visible weather cam to promote Seaside. Staff reported existing placements and costs and said a new Fox weather cam placement would cost about $2,000 per month. Members weighed the potential benefits — people seeing sunny conditions may visit — against installation logistics and ongoing maintenance.

Staff outlined options for camera placement, including rooftop mounts above the visitor center or a lanai location for a high-angle view of the beach. The committee asked staff to verify internet and power availability, roof-access and maintenance arrangements before pursuing a third live camera. Staff noted previous logistics issues with cameras (some locations had been removed) and said a new placement would require property-owner permission and a reliable network connection.

Committee members expressed support in principle for adding a third camera with a different angle of the beach, and asked staff to collect technical feasibility, costs and a recommended location to present at the next meeting or to the city council for approval.
