Lakefront Park nears full funding after $4 million King County grant; art installation work set for fall

A city staff member told the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board that the Lakefront Park project is close to full funding after receiving a $4 million award from King County, and that design work is continuing toward a bid package expected in early 2026.
"Roger Bauski did get us $4,000,000 for the project," the staff member reported, noting council had given the project the go-ahead and the design team will return with additional updates in October.
Staff said the schedule remains on track for bidding in early 2026 and for construction to follow once bids are awarded. Amber, the design lead, is expected to return in October to provide more detailed design updates.
Separately, staff briefed the board on a public-art installation near the pickleball courts. Contractors plan to pour the concrete pad in early September and install the artwork in October; organizers said community volunteers participated in mosaic work used in the piece and that park amenities such as trash receptacles were relocated in advance of installation.
Board members noted the funding milestone and thanked staff for the progress. Several members suggested continuing outreach as design details are refined and construction approaches.
