Charter Review Committee approves minutes, elects Clint Bryant vice chair

The Augusta City Charter Review Committee on Aug. 7 approved minutes from its July 24 meeting and elected Clint Bryant as the committee’s vice chair.

Minutes approval

A motion to approve the minutes as written was made and seconded; the committee clerk called the roll and the motion carried unanimously. The motion was recorded on the minutes as: "Motion, we approve the minutes as written." The motion maker was listed in the record as Sheffey and the second was Mister Powell.

Election of vice chair

The committee then opened nominations for vice chair. Mister Clint Bryant was nominated by Mister Pearson; committee member Chevy Robinson was nominated by Miss Bacchus. The committee conducted roll-call voting. The clerk announced the results after the first ballot: the motion to elect Clint Bryant carried; the minutes record some members voting no (Miss Robinson and Miss Bakos among them). The clerk later recorded a second ballot on Miss Robinson; that second ballot failed.

Why it matters: Committee leadership affects subcommittee assignments, agenda control and the conduct of future charter-drafting sessions, including scheduling of public workshops and coordination with staff and consultants.

Meeting disposition: The chair adjourned the meeting and scheduled the next full meeting for Aug. 21.
