Representatives from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government told the Charter Review Committee on Aug. 7 that the team received raw survey data from the public engagement effort and is analyzing it for discussion at a future meeting.
The Institute reported 15,534 survey submissions in total and said 109 paper surveys were tabulated and entered into the dataset. Staff said not all respondents completed every question and that the raw data will indicate how many answers each question received.
What the committee received
- Packets and themes: Members were given packets that include a comparative table of powers for the mayor, commission and city administrator, three general provisions for review and a table of emergent themes from the committee’s prior subcommittee hearings.
- Access and posting: Committee members asked the Institute and staff to post the raw data, article summaries and links on the CRC website. Staff said they will work with IT to make the materials available and confirmed a plan to meet IT staff later the same day to create a website workflow for posting documents and article links.
Why it matters: The raw survey data and article summaries will inform subcommittee deliberations on form-of-government and other charter topics. Members emphasized that the public should be able to locate agendas, materials and a public-comment form linked directly from the CRC webpage.
Follow-up and next meeting
The Institute said the raw survey results would be analyzed and discussed at a subsequent meeting (scheduled on the committee’s calendar as Aug. 20). Staff and the Institute agreed to coordinate the posting of abstracts, citations and the article summaries so the public can review source materials before deliberations.
