Board approves multiple procurement and facility actions including pest control, food contracts, buses and HVAC projects
Summary
The board approved several vendor contracts and construction design fees including pest management, produce and milk bids for school nutrition, temporary staffing, purchase of activity buses for a new high school, multiple HVAC design fees and a replacement chiller at West Campus.
During the regular session the board approved a slate of procurement and facilities items spanning operations, nutrition and bond-funded projects.
Procurement approvals included a district-level pest management services RFP (annual not-to-exceed amount $115,000; five-year total for district and school nutrition noted in the packet), a four-year NCPA produce distributor contract for school nutrition ($4,513,644 total), and an annual milk procurement contract for school nutrition (estimated $839,385 per year). The board also approved a roster of temporary staffing vendors for school nutrition (three-year total not to exceed $2,822,000) to support seasonal and vacancy-driven needs.
Facilities and capital approvals included authorization to accept the EPA clean school bus MOU and purchase grant-funded electric buses (separate article), purchase of four activity buses for the planned Wilson Mills High School (not to exceed $610,000, funded by bond), design and construction-administration fees for HVAC upgrades at 4 Oaks Elementary ($106,375), South Smithfield Elementary ($116,891) and Cleveland Elementary ($217,980), and the award of a replacement chiller project at West Campus to Allred Mechanical Services ($153,462 plus a $20,000 owner contingency for a total not to exceed $173,462).
The board also approved procurement of 100 teacher laptops and 1,500 Chromebooks for three new/expanded schools funded through bond allocations and the use of consultants to perform design and bidding work for track resurfacing and tennis court projects at select high schools.
Each item was moved and seconded and approved by recorded voice votes.
