Tampa’s Mobility Department presented its monthly stormwater maintenance report and highlighted lower call volumes in August compared with the same month a year earlier.
Numbers and activity: For August the department reported 311 calls for stormwater service; by comparison, August of last year saw 665 calls. Field crews dug out roughly 1.5 miles of ditches, removed about 562 tons of debris, completed 12 cave-in repairs and performed pond maintenance (mowed 127 ponds and sprayed 116 ponds). Street sweeping removed about 340 tons of debris in August.
Operations and priorities: The department said the call-volume decrease follows last year’s back-to-back tropical impacts and allows crews to focus on routine maintenance and planned ditch and headwall repairs. The report included photographs of a cave‑in repair, headwall work and ditch excavation to show the scale of routine maintenance activities.
How to request service: Mobility reminded the public that stormwater issues can be reported through the department’s customer-service line at (813) 274‑3101, which is answered 24 hours a day.
Council questions: Members asked questions about debris disposal (department answered that soil and vegetation debris typically goes to the landfill) and requested continued improvements in the monthly published report, including clarifying maps, work-order views and links for public access.
