The Issaquah City Council opened and closed a public hearing July 21 on a proposal to vacate a portion of Twelfth Avenue Northwest adjacent to the former City Hall Northwest property at 1775 Twelfth Avenue NW.
John Mortensen, transportation engineering manager, described the request as a routine street‑vacation process prompted by the sale of the former City Hall property. A segment of public right‑of‑way currently extends into the property’s parking area; the proposed vacation would clear that encumbrance so the new owner can use the land without an encroachment agreement. Mortensen said the city has no planned public use for the affected strip and that staff recommends conducting the public hearing and returning an ordinance for council action on August 11.
No members of the public signed up to speak on the item; the hearing was closed at 7:40 p.m. with no objection. Mortensen confirmed the recommendation is to schedule the ordinance for adoption on the August 11 consent calendar unless the council prefers to consider it in regular business. Council President Lindsay Walsh indicated a preference for placing the item on consent.
The item will return to council on August 11 for final action.
