The board considered a waiver/determination matter for Jia J. McKenzie (202331833) on Aug. 21 after the department alleged the licensee failed to hold an active out‑of‑state clinical social worker license when an Oregon credential lapsed.
According to the department, McKenzie held an Oregon clinical social worker associate license that expired on May 30, 2022; a Florida telehealth registration requires either an active similar license or timely documentation. Staff reported multiple unsuccessful service attempts and no timely election of rights or responsive pleading from McKenzie. The department requested that the board accept the investigative report, adopt the findings of fact and waive the right to a formal hearing.
Board members discussed whether suspension until the license was renewed was appropriate or whether revocation was more suitable given the lack of response. After discussion, a motion to revoke the telehealth registration carried. The board also ordered payment of investigative costs of $2,694.15 to be paid within one year.
Board staff noted that if McKenzie seeks future licensure under s. 491, any discipline will appear on a subsequent application for endorsement or licensure.
The board recorded the action to revoke and to assess costs; the decision was reached by voice vote and recorded as approved.
