Mr. Tawalt, a staff member who presented the item, said the city currently uses a 1-gigabit primary internet connection from Frontier at about $2,526 per month and a 150-megabit Sparklight backup at about $150 per month. He recommended the 10-gigabit circuit to improve internal and external site connectivity.
The motion to approve the three-year Sparklight agreement was made during the meeting, moved by Councilman Clark and seconded by Councilman Judd. The council voted in favor without recorded opposition; the mayor declared the motion passed unanimously.
Council members did not add conditions to the agreement during the public discussion. Staff indicated the upgrade will support planned internal network changes and improve connectivity for city facilities once the fiber interconnectivity is completed.
The contract is scheduled to run three years from the start date specified in the agreement; implementation details and an exact service start date were not specified during the meeting.
