Forrest Murphy, a library information specialist at the Show Low Public Library, described the library's regular children’s programs and said story time is his favorite.
Murphy told the meeting he organizes events for children that include story time, Lego club, early STEM, robotics and Dungeons & Dragons. “It's a chance to actually do something good for the community,” Murphy said.
Murphy said planning and leading the programs is the most rewarding part of his work. “My favorite time of the week is probably story time,” he said, adding that families often come specifically for that program.
He also described personal and community activities outside the library. Murphy said the Show Low Parks Course and Woodland Lake offer good local disc-golf options, and he described Wilderness Ranch — a private course near Porter Mountain — as “by far the most challenging course in the state and the most highly rated course in the state.”
Murphy spoke about hobbies that connect him to local outdoor recreation: fly fishing on the West Fork of the Black River and at nearby reservoir lakes, and keeping biotope aquariums with fish from regions such as the Rio Orinoco. He said he owns two aquariums and a dog, Cosmo, who he said weighs about 72 pounds.
Murphy invited residents to visit the Show Low Public Library to learn about programs and services for children and families.
