The Tuscaloosa Shop board presented a request for $135,000 to install a modern HVAC system using two high-efficiency heat pumps to provide heating and cooling for a historic shop and its collections. Board president Pam Leinbach (presenting) said the building currently relies on portable space heaters in winter and roughly 18–22 window air-conditioning units in summer.
Presenters described the building’s limited existing thermal performance and said past repair work included window and door replacements and foundation work. They reported they had applied to Mass Save and expect approximately $24,000 in Mass Save incentives for energy-efficiency measures.
Applicants said the new system would improve volunteer and public comfort during the winter donation season, better protect donated materials and reduce ongoing operating expenses. Committee members asked about condenser and ductwork locations; presenters said condensers could be sited at the side or rear where setbacks allow, and they will provide placement plans and a detailed cost breakdown to staff.
No CPC decision on the Tuscaloosa Shop HVAC request was recorded at the meeting.
