The mayor previewed the Sept. 27 Oktoberfest on Parker Street in front of the Gardner Ale House and at Mackie Park. He described it as the 20th annual Oktoberfest, hosted by the Gardner Festival Committee, with the Cherluge in its 15th year and a theme of "Beetlejuice." The mayor outlined the festival schedule the update provided: a 10 a.m. "run for the beer," an 11 a.m. Bavarian folk performance, an 11:30 a.m. keg tap, a 1 p.m. stein‑holding contest, a 2 p.m. chair luge event and afternoon music, with evening bands named in the update.
The mayor said Gardner's downtown preschool trick‑or‑treat stroll and City Hall trick‑or‑treat will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 31 for preschool‑age children accompanied by adults. Regular trick‑or‑treat hours for other households will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Other events listed in the update include a Gardner Farmers Market on the front lawn of the Waterford Street Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; an outdoor movie night hosted by the Gardner Lodge of Elks at 31 Park Street on Sept. 27 showing Grease at 7 p.m.; and a Gardner Museum ribbon cutting and reception on Sept. 28 for a permanent exhibit honoring illustrator Harrison Cady. The mayor said reservations are required for the museum event.
He also announced cultural and community events in October: the Theater at the Mount production of Anything Goes with evening shows in October and a matinee Oct. 12; the Greater Gardner domestic violence vigil at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, in Perry Auditorium; and a free Hispanic Heritage Festival on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Perry Auditorium with food, music and community resources.
