Greenwood Pool demolition nearly complete; asbestos abatement pushes pavilion construction timetable

The CPP steering committee heard Sept. 23 that demolition work at Greenwood Pool is almost finished but is roughly a week behind schedule due to extended asbestos abatement.
Assistant Director Amy, who has been leading the project, said crews had difficulty removing some tiling during abatement; demolition remains essentially complete and the project is progressing. The project was split into two phases: phase one demolition and phase two construction of an outdoor pavilion (referred to as Elden Pavilion).
Committee members discussed that while most projects came in under budget, the city will need additional funding for the pavilion phase and will review several scenarios and potential funding sources at later meetings. Amy said staff expect clearer answers on funding after the next day’s developments and that the projects are interrelated with remaining CDBG funds.
Fred, vice president at Associated Building Records, provided photos of the work; committee members noted removal of two cupolas and finials and said staff would confirm whether those elements could be acquired and reused.
No formal action was taken; members agreed to keep the item on the agenda for updates.
