Residents, businesses ask ADEM to reject proposed “Integra Plan” wastewater permit on Flint River

At a public hearing Tuesday in Berryhill, residents, business owners and environmental advocates urged the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to reject a proposed wastewater treatment plant called the “Integra Plan” on the Flint River, saying the project would threaten recreation, wildlife and downstream water quality.

Speakers told ADEM staff that the Flint River supports a small but significant recreational industry and local traditions, that aquatic species have been documented in recent years, and that questions remain about the track record of the company seeking the permit. Department staff told the hearing that the public comment period closes at 5 p.m. Oct. 15, 2025, and that the department will consider oral and written comments before making a determination and preparing responses to relevant comments.
