The Newberry County Board of Trustees received the August cash-flow and budget report on Sept. 22 and discussed fund balances and the upcoming assessment process; trustees stated they do not want an increase in millage.
A finance presenter reported the district started August with $24.1 million, received roughly $5.3 million in deposits and had about $8.8 million in claims during the month, ending August with approximately $20.6 million. The presenter also said the general fund balance was about $12.3 million, federal projects $4.4 million and state funds $3.4 million, with roughly $500,000 in other restricted funds. The presenter noted recent bond-sale proceeds will appear in next month’s construction fund columns.
One trustee told the presenter the board’s intent is not to increase millage and asked for that position to be reflected in planning. The presenter replied, “Yes, sir. We'll keep the same millage.”
No board action was recorded on tax rates at the meeting; the cash-flow report was provided as information and will be used in upcoming budget and assessment work.
