Aurora approves vending machine to dispense opioid-reversal medication at Transit Center

The Aurora City Council on March 11 approved a resolution authorizing an agreement with the King County Health Department to install an opioid overdose reversal-agent vending machine at the Aurora Transit Center, voting 12-0.

The measure, read into the record as resolution 250188, passed following public comment urging the council to approve the Memorandum of Understanding. "I rise today in strong support of the MOU between our Fair City and the King County health department on the naloxone vending today," said Mr. Pauley during the public-comment period, adding that the vote would provide "closure and clarity" for people affected by addiction.

Supporters told the council the vending machine would expand access to naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal agent, and that a formal city–county partnership would help coordinate distribution. Alderman Burrow commended Mr. Pauley’s persistence, saying his work with county officials helped move the item forward.

The resolution was introduced on the consent agenda but removed for separate consideration; after brief remarks and public comment the council approved it by roll call. The clerk recorded a 12-0 vote in favor. The resolution authorizes the execution of an agreement with the King County Health Department to place and operate the vending machine at the Aurora Transit Center.

Implementation tasks noted in the meeting included staff follow-up with county contacts to finalize operational details; no additional funding amount was specified in the council discussion.

The machine's installation will follow execution of the agreement and any operational arrangements the city and county finalize.
