The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 15 approved a resolution authorizing acquisition of property interests to install a traffic signal and complete intersection improvements at Algonquin Parkway and nearby approaches.
Supervisor Bridal said the project, originally started by another supervisor, requires a quick-take acquisition of about 4,100 square feet in three small parcels so the county can install a traffic signal. Bridal said the acquisition will cost about $25,000 and will improve safety at a ranked concern intersection.
The board approved the resolution by voice vote after a motion from Supervisor Brooks and a second from Supervisor Glass. The motion was described in the staff report for public hearing item number 1 and passed 7-0 with two supervisors absent.
Supervisor Bridal told the board the work is being coordinated with the homeowners association and other partners so the county can move forward with signal installation. "We are acquiring in a quick take about 4,100 square feet in 3 little chunks, so that we can build the traffic light there, and it's costing about $25,000," Bridal said.
Chair Randall called for no further comment and the board voted; the chair later announced the resolution passed 7-0 with two members off the dais. The approved resolution authorizes staff to acquire the identified property interests and proceed with the intersection improvements described in the staff report.
The county did not provide further funding detail in the hearing; staff and supervisors said coordination with the HOA is part of the implementation approach.
