Council members voted unanimously to advance candidate number three for the building official position and subsequently announced his name as Brandon Howell.
Candidates had been evaluated by a panel and an external assessment; the council considered scores and interviews before making the selection. Councilman Gervontz moved to nominate candidate number 3; Vice Mayor Hayes seconded the motion. Several council members praised the candidate—s internal experience and the city—s practice of promoting from within.
Brandon Howell addressed the council before the vote, listing his years of service and experience in building and code work. "I have a great desire to be the next building official for the city of Gallatin. I believe my experience and my certifications exceed the minimal qualifications for this position," he said during his remarks.
The nomination cleared the council and Howell was named by the mayor near the end of the agenda. The council requested no further formal action at the meeting; personnel onboarding and administrative steps will follow.
