Congressman Randy Fine visited a Volusia County business breakfast Friday to give an update on his first months in office, recount staffing and constituent-service efforts and summarize federal measures he said would affect local residents.
Fine, who described the circumstances of his special-election campaign, said his office opened six district offices and hired about 15 staffers. “Our office in Volusia is in DeLand,” he said, and he named Steven as his district director for the area.
Fine told the audience his office had helped nearly 400 constituents with federal issues, including IRS, immigration and veterans' benefits cases, and said his staff had helped recover “almost $2,000,000 of money for individuals that the government owed them.” He also said his office had secured $100,000 “for their municipal airport to help them with some work.”
On federal policy, Fine described support for a major tax bill he said extended tax rates from 2017 and created new benefits he characterized as broadly reducing taxes on overtime, tips and Social Security for many seniors. He also spoke about modernization efforts such as air-traffic control changes included in the package.
Fine framed his remarks as both a constituent-service report and an invitation to continue contact with his Washington and district offices. He encouraged attendees to bring casework and local priorities to his staff and said he will continue district events and outreach.
All claims of staffing numbers, casework totals and funding reported above are attributed to Rep. Fine’s remarks during the event and were not verified independently in the meeting transcript.
