Trustee objects to SARC data inconsistencies; board approves report with request for analysis

The Chula Vista Elementary School District Board of Education voted 4–1 to ratify the 2023–24 School Accountability Report Cards but asked district staff to investigate apparent data inconsistencies identified by one trustee.
Trustee Karen Ramirez Dominguez said she compared the SARCs to other district reports and the California Dashboard and found numbers that ‘‘looked cut and paste’’ across years, with instances where significant enrollment or demographic changes did not propagate through related fields. She said that raised concerns about data accuracy. Superintendent staff explained that many SARC fields are prepopulated from state data submissions and local systems but acknowledged a need to verify discrepancies.
Trustee Tamayo moved to approve the SARCs while directing the district to analyze the discrepancies Trustee Dominguez identified; President Ugarte seconded. The motion passed 4–1. Trustees asked staff to return with an analysis showing where discrepancies occur and whether updates are needed to the published SARCs.
District staff said they will verify SARC data against DataQuest and other state submissions and report their findings to the board.
