Walton County’s environmental services staff announced next steps on a county‑wide infrastructure vulnerability assessment and the commission approved a staff‑led public open house to present the findings and solicit community feedback.
Environmental staff and Taylor Engineering have inventoried county and municipal infrastructure (water, sewer, electrical and other systems) and completed a vulnerability/risk assessment. Staff asked permission to hold a second public meeting as an open house with station displays so residents can review regional findings and comment on risk areas; commissioners approved the request.
Separately, commissioners adopted a resolution recognizing October 27 through October 31 as Coastal Dune Lake Week. The Coastal Dune Lake Advisory Board will lead public education, tours of state parks and lake cleanups; staff said Eventbrite registration and county social media will carry the schedule.
Commissioners supported both actions and thanked staff and advisory board members for outreach work; environmental staff will return to the board with results and any proposed mitigation priorities that emerge from the public comment process.
