Waukegan committee approves $3.24 million repaving contract, OKs auction of surplus vehicles

The Waukegan Public Works and Infrastructure Committee approved a $3,239,481.67 contract award to Peter Baker and Son for the Washington and Keller repaving project and authorized disposal of surplus vehicles through Obonoff Auction Services Incorporated at a special meeting, the committee voted.
The approvals were part of brief new-business proceedings that included formal approval of the committee’s Aug. 18, 2025 minutes and a motion to adjourn. The repaving award and the ordinance to dispose of surplus equipment drew little discussion and passed on voice/roll-call votes.
The repave item was introduced as “a resolution approving the award of the Washington and Keller repave repaving project bid to Peter Baker and Son for not to exceed amount of $3,239,481.67.” The motion to approve the resolution was made by Alderman Guzman and seconded by Alderman Dunningworth. In the roll call, Chairman Turner voted “Aye,” Vice Chairman Guzman voted “Aye,” Alderman Downer Worth voted “Aye,” and Alderman Newsom voted “Aye.” The motion passed.
The committee then considered an ordinance to dispose of various surplus vehicles and equipment through Obonoff Auction Services Incorporated. Alderman Guzman moved the ordinance and Alderman Newsom seconded. The roll call recorded Aye votes from Chairman Turner, Vice Chairman Guzman, Alderman Downer Worth and Alderman Newsom; the motion passed.
Earlier on the agenda the committee approved the minutes of its Aug. 18, 2025 meeting. The motion to approve the minutes was moved by Alderman Guzman and seconded; the roll call again recorded ayes from Turner, Guzman, Downer Worth and Newsom, and the motion carried.
There were no audience speakers during the audience time portion of the meeting. The chair called for a motion to adjourn, which was moved and seconded; the committee voted in favor and the meeting was adjourned at 05:17 according to the meeting record.
