Skokie Board approves remote participation, consent agenda and issues several proclamations

The Village of Skokie Board of Trustees unanimously approved remote participation for Trustee Pierce Slovan and adopted the consent agenda during the meeting, and the board later adjourned by unanimous roll call.

At the start of the meeting Mayor Anne Tennis asked the board to vote to permit remote participation by Trustee Pierce Slovan under state law. Trustee Robinson moved the motion and Trustee Kimani Levy seconded; the clerk called the roll and the motion passed, allowing Trustee Pierce Slovan to participate via Zoom.

The board then took the consent agenda as presented. Trustee Robinson moved to approve the consent agenda, Trustee Gail Schechter seconded, and the clerk called the roll; the motion passed. Village staff later noted that items b and c had been approved as part of the consent agenda.

The mayor read a series of ceremonial proclamations without separate roll-call votes and asked the honorees to join trustees at the podium. Proclamations included designating Oct. 9, 2025, as Ageism Awareness Day in Skokie; declaring October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; recognizing October 2025 as Filipino American History Month; and recognizing October 2025 as Hindu American Heritage Month and marking Oct. 20, 2025, as the beginning of Diwali.

During public comment, several residents addressed the board on topics including community cultural events, a request for a presentation on the village community solar program, a long-running private driveway/access complaint and safety concerns, and neighborhood rat problems; trustees and staff acknowledged the comments and said staff would follow up where appropriate.

Trustee Robinson moved to adjourn at the meeting's close; Trustee Kimani Levy seconded and the clerk called the roll. The motion carried by roll call, and the meeting adjourned.
