Revere approves handicapped parking space on Bateman Road

The Revere City commission approved an amendment to Title 10, Schedule 11 to add a handicapped parking space on Bateman Road following a public hearing and statements from nearby residents.
Supporters said the household that would use the space lacks a driveway and needs curbside accessible parking. "The family there, I've been to the site. They don't have driveway. The family there, needs access to a handicap sign, because they have someone who, qualifies," said Juan Pablo, a resident who identified his address as 70 Low Street, Revere.
The applicant for the sign, Christine Langille, spoke in favor and confirmed she was the applicant for the record. Chair said there were no opponents to the change.
City Engineer Nicholas Rystrom advised on safe placement, saying the sign should not be within 20 feet of the street curve, not in front of the ADA ramp at the corner and not in front of a fire hydrant. "Where the spot ends up put being put wherever the sign is ... should be obviously not, within 20 feet of the curve and then then also not in front of the ADA ramp that's there on the corner ... and also not in front of the hydrant," Rystrom said.
Commission members moved and seconded the motion to approve and voted by voice; the chair announced the item approved.
The commission directed staff to place the sign consistent with the engineer's placement guidance to avoid obstructing the ramp, hydrant or curve.
