Corin McWiggen, the Auburn School Committee member who reported on the curriculum subcommittee, told the committee on Oct. 15 that the Lewiston Regional Technical Center (LRTC) program is expanding and Auburn is a host school for several programs.
"It's one of my favorite meetings is when we get the update for the LRTC," McWiggen said, adding that the fall additions include composites, auto collision repair and a second-year early education program. She said future plans include a landscaping program expected to open in 2026 and noted, "We have 226 seats available for the Auburn students at LRTC."
Committee members asked whether Auburn's new high-school wing and host-school status accounted for the increased seats; assistant superintendent Scott Adeneer explained that it is twofold: the district offers more programs and, as the host school, it receives a share of regional seats.
McWiggen also mentioned using program advisory committees to guide future program offerings and described student enthusiasm for the hands-on programs. The committee did not take formal action on LRTC programs at this meeting.
The curriculum-subcommittee report also referenced related site improvements, such as a planned 30-by-40 greenhouse at Edward Little High School and capital needs discussed by the finance subcommittee.
