The Planning and Zoning Commission on June 18 recommended approval of a specific use permit to allow a 100-foot telecommunications tower on a 0.73-acre commercial parcel at 1706 West Ferguson Road. The owner was listed as William Edward Ahrens and the applicant is represented by CTG 1 LLC (Vincent G. Hubinger).
Staff explained the city’s telecommunication tower standards (chapter 155.5 of the municipal code) and said towers are limited to 100 feet. The applicant provided coverage studies showing an existing gap in service near the proposed site; staff presented maps indicating the new tower would fill that gap. Staff recommended approval with conditions that the tower be built according to the submitted site plan, that all driveways and parking surfaces be concrete, that a screening fence be installed and supplemented with drought-tolerant landscaping facing the street, and that required building permits be obtained prior to construction.
No public opposition was recorded in the staff mailing and no speakers addressed the commission at the hearing. A commissioner moved and seconded approval with the staff conditions; the motion passed unanimously. The commission will forward its recommendation to city council for final action.
