Phil, a parks and recreation staff member, told the board that the 2021 COs (ordinance number 2021-1291) authorized funds for street and park projects and that city staff had identified a list of park projects with an aggregate estimated design and construction cost of about $6.4 million; $140,000 was listed for playground improvements at Lower Sellmeier.
Staff described Lower Sellmeier as a small neighborhood park with limited parking, shaded playground equipment, a bench, picnic area, creek access and green space. Phil and board members noted that the park is underused: one board member said they drive past the park daily and rarely see anyone use it. Board members discussed options the neighborhood meeting might surface, including replacing playground equipment, creating an open-field amenity, adding parking, or repurposing the site for another neighborhood use.
Phil proposed a Saturday, Nov. 1 public meeting (10 a.m.) at Lower Sellmeier Park with a rainout location at Doubletree Ranch Park and said staff would canvass neighbors and use email and signage to publicize the meeting.
The board voted to set the meeting date. Kevin Pearson moved to set a public meeting on Nov. 1 at Lower Sellmeier Park; Dave Rush seconded. The motion passed on an aye vote (recorded in the meeting as "Aye").
