Council approves towing contract, orders RFP for backup vendor; authorizes sign replacement and moves ordinance to adoption

The City of Stanton City Council on the evening's agenda approved an amendment continuing the city's towing contract, voted to issue a new request for proposals for a backup towing provider, authorized advertisement of a citywide street sign replacement project (Phase 1) and introduced an ordinance to change the name and size of a municipal commission.

The council voted, by roll call, to instruct staff to reissue an RFP for a secondary tow company to serve as a backup to the city's primary towing contractor, Action Southland Towing. Mayor Shaver made the motion to advertise a backup contract; the motion was seconded and passed in a roll-call recorded as passing 3-0. Council members recorded in the roll call were Councilmember Warren, Councilmember Barrios, Councilmember Taylor, Mayor Pro Tem Torres and Mayor Shaver; the clerk announced the item passed with a 3-0 vote on the RFP motion.

Council members also approved continuing the city's existing towing arrangement (the contract amendment on the table) after staff described a competitive procurement performed in 2021 and said the city's recommendation was based on service performance and procurement review.
