TCAT honors Elizabethton CTE for dual-enrollment participation; district schedules Day Rider Center ribbon cutting

Officials from TCAT recognized Elizabethton City Schools' Career and Technical Education department at the board's October meeting, citing the district's dual-enrollment participation and announcing a forthcoming ribbon cutting for the district's new athletic facility.
"For us to be here is a big deal, and we love being here in Elizabethton," said Dr. Church, a TCAT representative, as TCAT staff presented dual-enrollment recognitions to the district. TCAT representatives said 222 Elizabethton High School students were dually enrolled in TCAT programs this fall; presenters said that number represents about 27% of Elizabethton High School's student body. The district received bronze-level recognition from TCAT both for total dual-enrollment participation and for the proportion of the student body participating.
TCAT officials listed the programs in which students are dual enrolled, including STEM and advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, computer information technology, building construction, criminal justice, off-road diesel, and a new pre-practical nursing program offered this year. Presenters said some students earn certificates while still enrolled in high school and that dual-enrollment credit remains available to students after graduation.
During his director's update, Director Phil Van Huss announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Day Rider Center for Athletic Performance on Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. "It is an absolutely incredible facility that is already being used by so many different programs in the school system," Van Huss said, noting that the band and color guard had already used the space and that classes currently meet there.
Board members and district staff also highlighted recent campus improvements: a newly paved parking lot at a training facility and a courtyard mural at the high school. Trustees noted extracurricular and academic events, including upcoming ACT testing and staff participation in regional conferences.
The TCAT recognition and the ribbon-cutting announcement were presented during the meeting's special recognition and director update sections; no formal board vote was required for the recognitions or the ribbon-cutting announcement.
