Virtual court kiosk delayed; MOU with Texas Legal Aid remains unsigned, judge says

Library staff and a visiting judge told the Laredo Library Advisory Board that delivery of a virtual court kiosk for use at the Moss Library is pending the execution of a memorandum of understanding with Texas Legal Aid.
Judge Villalreal told the board he understood the city had completed local preparations and that the missing step was signatures on the MOU. “The MOU is still waiting, to be signed with Texas legal aid,” Judge Villalreal said. He said that, once the MOU is executed, Texas Legal Aid plans to deliver equipment selected to fit a private space at the Moss Library.
Library staff confirmed the city has worked with Texas Legal Aid on equipment selection and that staff will follow up to encourage final signatures. Board members said the kiosk could be a “game changer for South Laredo,” and Judge Villalreal said the group would be invited to a ribbon-cutting event when the equipment is installed.
No formal board action was taken; staff said they would follow up with Texas Legal Aid and report progress to the board at a later meeting.
