A local nonprofit, CT Beds, told the council during public comment it has helped 50 families in six months and requested help from the city to scale operations and reach residents in need.
Jay (Jay Rivera), founder of CT Beds, used his allotted public-comment time to describe a newly formed nonprofit that provides beds and basic furniture to families and individuals in need. Rivera said CT Beds became a 501(c)(3) six months ago and has helped roughly 50 families across Connecticut in that period, assisting domestic-violence survivors, veterans, and low-income parents with beds and related necessities.
Rivera told the council he funds much of the effort out of pocket, runs a wood shop, and needs help with outreach, fundraising and coordination with local social-services agencies. He provided contact information on the record—ctbeds.org, phone (203) 223-2999 and email CTbedshelp@Gmail.com—and asked the council to help get the organization connected to local referral partners such as DCF and Columbus House. Several council members and a resident in the chamber asked for a business card and the organizers said they would provide follow-up contact material.
Mayor and council members thanked Rivera for the service. Rivera emphasized the organization’s statewide activity and requested that West Haven city officials help spread awareness so more residents can receive assistance.
