Sawyer County jail population dips; four on electronic monitoring, programs listed

Sawyer County jail staff reported at the Sept. 10 Criminal Justice Coordinating Council meeting that the jail’s daily population averaged about 60, with the daily population on the day the report was produced recorded at 58.
The report said four people were on electronic monitoring. Sentenced-population averages were slightly lower than previously reported. Council members noted that as jail population decreases, staff ability to provide programs has increased.
A summary of in-jail programming included a Sawyer County literacy program (Holly Moses and Jeff Laney), a GED program (Ariela Corel), Native American culture and language classes, Pathways Home through Matthew Filipiak, Parenting Inside and Out through UW Extension, 12 Bible study sessions, nine AA meetings, and on-the-job training through Northwest SEP.
Council members asked whether the written packet contained the full slides and were told the program bullet points were a late addition that the presenter could forward to members.
No formal action was taken on the jail report; it was presented for information and discussion.
