Budget committee corrects classification points, approves salary-range adjustment for 311 deputy director

The Minneapolis Budget Committee on Oct. 6 approved a technical correction to the classification score and salary range for the Deputy Director of the 311 Service Center and voted to forward the change to the full City Council for review.
Brenda Miller, classification and compensation specialist in the human resources department, told the committee staff discovered an error by an outside consultant that reduced the position's point total by five points, from 578 to 573. "There was an error by our outside consultant in totaling the points, and it resulted in a decrease of 5 points," Miller said during the committee meeting.
Miller said the correction slightly changes the approved pay steps: the bottom step adjusts from $129,000 to $128,000 (a difference Miller described as approximately $1,142) and the top step moves from $153,000 to $152,000 (about $1,354 difference). She told the committee the position meets the criteria of section 20-10-10 of the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances and requested committee approval to submit the corrected classification to the City Council.
Committee Chair Ayesha Chugtai moved approval; a second was recorded and, by voice vote, the motion carried. The chair stated the motion carries without indicating individual roll-call votes.
The committee action was procedural: it corrected a classification point total and corresponding salary range and transmitted that correction to the City Council for its review and any final approvals.
