The Board of Architectural Review on Oct. 16 approved a certificate of appropriateness permitting the replacement of six front vinyl windows with wood windows at 26 West Boscawen Street.
Mark McKee, the applicant, returned to the board after an earlier meeting in which the board had denied vinyl on the front elevation. "Our last meeting we had, we requested the front vinyl windows to be vinyl, and, y'all requested that we went to wood, so now we're requesting wood," McKee said, presenting Marvin wood windows for the front elevation and noting one side window previously approved to remain vinyl.
Staff and board members reviewed submitted specifications and a brochure provided to staff. A board member commented the proposed wood double-hung windows would be "a very, very nice addition." The board approved the application by voice vote; no opposition was recorded.
The approval covers six front-facing windows to be replaced with Marvin wood double-hung windows (one-over-one configuration reported by the applicant) as submitted in the proposal. The board previously granted limited exceptions for one window to remain vinyl on a less visible elevation and for another window already approved under an earlier partial approval.
The applicant may proceed with installation consistent with the approved wood-window specifications; any deviation from the approved materials or profiles should be submitted to staff for review.
