Commission approves termination of Broward College sublease at Miramar Library and plans workshop on future uses

The City Commission approved termination of the sublease with Broward College for second-floor space in the Miramar Library and Educational Center.
Devon Campbell, development and intergovernmental affairs officer, said Broward College no longer requires the leased space and requested a formal termination of the sublease so the city can repurpose the premises. Campbell said the termination will confirm surrender of the premises and release both parties from liabilities or claims tied to the sublease.
Commissioner Avril Sherazard asked whether the lease included early-termination fees or other payment obligations; Campbell replied there were none known so long as proper notice was provided and said staff would confirm exact figures for a future workshop. Sherazard also asked whether the city would reoffer the entire second floor or part of it; Campbell said the commission will discuss options in a workshop that staff will schedule.
The commission voted to approve the termination. Votes recorded: Commissioner Maxwell B. Chambers — yes; Commissioner Avril Sherazard — yes; Vice Mayor Yvette Colburn — yes; Commissioner Carson "Eddie" Edwards — yes; Mayor Wayne Messam — yes. City staff said they will present lease- and revenue-related figures at the planned workshop.
