Senior center nears substantial completion; city targets Nov. 19 handover

City project staff told council on Thursday that construction of Leander's new senior center is advancing toward a substantial-completion target of Nov. 19.
CIP Project Manager Russell Basso reported that fire alarm and sprinkler systems were being installed, network cabling and mechanical/electrical systems were being started up, ceiling grid work was nearly complete and tile installation had begun. Interior finishes shown in the meeting photos included restroom tile, a multipurpose room wall feature and kitchen hood installation. Basso said crews were preparing the courtyard and sidewalk pours and that some concrete work was scheduled for the coming week.
"They're moving along through there," Basso said, showing photos of the lobby, the multi-purpose room and staff offices. City staff earlier said the project remains on track for a late-November substantial-completion milestone and that punch-list and commissioning work would follow prior to public opening.
Council thanked project staff for the pace and for providing recent photos and progress updates. No formal action was required; staff will return to council with final completion and commissioning dates as the contractor finishes systems testing.
