Plymouth White Marsh High School students were recognized Thursday night by Colonial School District leaders for achievements in the National Merit Scholarship Program and the College Board National Recognition Program.
School and district officials said the recognized students scored among the highest on the PSAT or met College Board criteria for academic performance and classroom grades. The district called forward commended students and semifinalists in the National Merit program and introduced dozens of students who earned College Board recognition for PSAT performance, first-generation status, or AP exam results.
The recognitions map to the district’s academic indicators: “We are honored to recognize so many Plymouth White Marsh students this evening for their achievements in the National Merit Scholarship Program, as well as the College Board National Recognition Program,” Superintendent Dr. Christian said during the meeting. Dr. Bakani, principal of Plymouth White Marsh High School, told the board that the school has a record number of students enrolled in AP classes and scoring a 3 or higher on AP exams this year.
Administrators called forward named students for photos and congratulated those unable to attend because of extracurricular commitments, including orchestra trips, athletics, and other school events. The board noted individual student awards and also highlighted broader measures of school performance: the district cited local magazine and national rankings that listed PWHS among the state’s higher-ranked high schools.
District staff and board members said the recognitions reflect student effort and staff support and thanked families for attending. The program concluded with a group photograph and brief remarks praising the students’ “diligence, perseverance [and] hard work,” and encouragement to the community to continue supporting academic programs.
Looking ahead, administrators said they expect additional celebrations as the year progresses and encouraged families to follow school announcements for events tied to student achievement.
