Council members who served on an ad‑hoc Greenwood Beach Road safety subcommittee gave a brief report on Oct. 15 summarizing resident concerns about pedestrian and bicycle safety on Greenwood Beach Road and Greenwood Cove Drive.
Council members said they conducted separate neighborhood visits and a weekend walk‑through to observe heavy bicycle traffic and fast downhill bicycle speeds in the area of Blackies Pasture, where a steep downhill stretch brings cyclists and pedestrians into close proximity. Residents asked that the council address safety concerns sooner than a larger, multi‑phase Caltrans project would allow.
Interim public‑works staff and council members said the town's traffic consultant, already engaged for Tiburon Boulevard work, can provide a small, limited add‑on scope to analyze Greenwood Beach Road safety and recommend near‑term mitigation measures (signage, speed‑mitigation treatments or other low‑cost measures). Staff indicated the add‑on would take a few weeks and could provide recommendations for short‑term improvements while the town continues to coordinate with Caltrans on longer‑term Phase 2 Tiburon Boulevard improvements.
Several neighborhood speakers asked the council to keep focus on the future Caltrans improvements while pursuing interim measures, and council members directed staff to proceed with a limited consultant task to study safety and return with recommendations.
