Pocatello City Council approved a land exchange that transfers a 0.11-acre underutilized city parcel to a private owner in exchange for property the city has maintained for decades, retaining a greenway easement for future trail connections.
The Pocatello City Council approved Oct. 19 an exchange of a 0.11‑acre parcel of city-owned property adjacent to 841 West Bridger Street. The parcel was declared surplus at the council’s Sept. 18 meeting.
Hannah Sanger, science and environment division manager, told the council that the city has been maintaining a strip of land on the west side of the Portneuf River near Willow Avenue for decades, mowing it as part of park maintenance. Under the proposed exchange, the city would receive the property it currently mows (including part of a street) while conveying the surplus 0.11‑acre parcel adjacent to John Brennan’s lot on Bridger Street. Sanger said the city would retain a greenway easement on the east side of the river to allow a future trail connection from Ring And Park to Memorial Park.
Council President Lyric moved to approve the exchange and to authorize the mayor’s signature on all pertinent documents subject to legal review; Council Member Cheatham seconded. The clerk called the roll and the council approved the exchange.
No public testimony opposed the exchange during the hearing. City staff reported no undisclosed ex‑parte contacts or written correspondence outside the materials provided to council.
