Oak Ridge schools report student achievements, intercession activities and name new Willowbrook principal

Presenters highlighted classroom and extracurricular accomplishments: Jefferson Middle School and other buildings reported superior music ratings at regional assessments; multiple schools noted classroom grants and author visits; Woodland Elementary’s chess team placed fourth in a regional scholastic team tournament and qualified for state; and Oak Ridge High School students advanced to state and national competitions in science and track.
The district reported spring intercession plans that included eight sites, roughly 340 student participants, 47 staff participants and 41 separate activities. Schools partnered with local organizations—Glennwood with the American Museum of Science and Energy, Robertsville with Kroger, Linden with Home Depot—and the high school ran credit-recovery and ACT preparation programs during intercession.
Board leaders announced that Jason Nussbaum will serve as the new principal of Willowbrook Elementary and named Rachel Frazier as assistant principal. The board applauded outgoing and incoming staff and recognized principals and volunteers for recent work.
