The Canyon City Commission introduced Michael as the new director of the Canyon Economic Development Corporation during the May 20 meeting.
Mark (speaker identified in the transcript) said Michael joins Canyon from Amarillo EDC and previously served as an EDC director in Hartford; the mayor noted Michael also worked at Amarillo College. Michael told the commission he has roughly 13 years of economic development experience and lives north of Canyon. “I—m excited to get a chance to talk to each one of you and get your thoughts… about what you think economic development is,” Michael said.
Commissioners encouraged Michael to meet with the seven members of the EDC board and with city commissioners as he begins the role.
Next steps: Michael will begin outreach to commissioners and EDC board members and start work on retention and expansion priorities identified for the city.
