Palmview approves replacement radios for patrol units, budgeted in current fiscal year

The Palmview City Council approved the purchase of replacement in‑vehicle radios for patrol units at its Aug. 18 meeting. City staff told the council the purchase was already budgeted for the current fiscal year.
Police leadership said most of the radios currently in patrol vehicles are more than 12 years old and are beginning to experience electronic failures. Staff said older radios will be repurposed for non‑patrol uses such as CID and administrative vehicles where feasible.
A chief briefed the council on the procurement and said the vendor already had stock available and that the primary remaining step was issuance of a purchase order.
Council members moved and seconded the procurement; the motion passed on a voice vote. Staff said the procurement would proceed under the allocated line item and confirmed a brief timeline once the purchase order is issued.
