Red Oak council sets special meeting Aug. 18 to take final vote on FY2026 budget after public hearing

The Red Oak City Council held a public hearing on Aug. 11 on the proposed fiscal year 2026 operating budget and voted unanimously to set a special meeting for Aug. 18 to take the final adoption vote.
City staff presented the budget as balanced and prepared using “prudent fiscal management practices,” based on assumptions discussed at two budget and strategic-planning workshops. Staff told the council the budget had been filed with the city secretary and that the public notice had been published in the Dallas Morning News in accordance with the local government code.
The public hearing was opened for comments on the budget; no members of the public addressed the council. Afterward, the council approved a resolution to establish the Aug. 18 special meeting as the date to consider final adoption of the FY2026 budget. The date was selected so the city satisfies the 30-day posting requirement in the Local Government Code before final adoption.
The motion to adopt the resolution establishing the Aug. 18 vote passed 5-0. Councilmembers voting in favor recorded on the transcript were Franklin, White foot, Miller, Smith and Lightfoot. Staff said the special meeting would be posted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and that the final vote would allow the city to meet statutory deadlines for municipal budget and taxation.
No amendments or alternate motions were proposed at the Aug. 11 hearing. City staff said the full budget document had been available on the city website since July 18.
