Council awards contract to upgrade Hargrove Park splash pad plumbing to meet sanitation requirements

The Red Oak City Council awarded a contract to Craftsman LP to re-plumb the Hargrove Park splash pad and install upgraded pumping and sanitation controls, voting unanimously to approve the construction contract under bid/contract number 679-22.
Kelly, a parks staff member, told council the splash pad has become unexpectedly popular and that the project will replace the existing plumbing and pumping system with larger tanks and upgraded equipment. Kelly said the changes would allow the city to operate the splash pad for extended hours — “12, 14 hours a day” — and that one of the project drivers is a state health requirement for a secondary sanitation system after an incident in another city in 2020. “The state department of health is asking everybody in this requirement now that you have a secondary sanitation system that is approved through them,” Kelly said. He added the upgraded system will send email alerts and shut off the feature if parameters indicate a problem.
Funding and timing: staff said the project is funded from park development fees. Kelly said some equipment has a lead time of about five weeks and that the contractor would order materials immediately if council approved the resolution; staff estimated the work could be in place in time for summer use.
Vote and motion: Council approved resolution 25-016 r, awarding the construction contract to Craftsman LP, by a recorded vote of 4-0.
